Frequently Asked Questions
Your questions answered—from worldschooling to daily life in Castrovillari
What is BrightSteps?
BrightSteps is a bilingual learning hub for worldschooling families, hosted at Accademia delle Lingue in Castrovillari, Calabria. We offer 3 months (March 1–May 31, 2026) of immersive, project-based education for children ages 6–13.
What does worldschooling mean?
Worldschooling is an educational approach where families travel and learn together, using the world as a classroom. BrightSteps provides a stable base for worldschooling families who want high-quality bilingual education, community support, and a central location to explore Southern Italy.
When does the program run?
March 1 – May 31, 2026 (13 weeks). Classes are Monday–Thursday, 9:00–12:30. Fridays are for community breakfasts and family time.
Do I have to commit to the full 3 months?
Yes. The programme requires a full 3-month commitment to ensure continuity for the group, build meaningful relationships, and allow children to benefit fully from the curriculum. We request payment in advance (either as one instalment or two split payments) to secure your child''s place and to confirm staff and reserve the school space.
Does my child need to speak Italian?
No! Children learn Italian through immersion, play, and real communication. We welcome beginners and fluent speakers alike.
How much does it cost?
Program tuition: Standard €700/month = €2,138 total incl. liability insurance; Early-bird €550/month = €1,688 total incl. insurance if booked by December 18, 2025. Accommodation: €600–750 per month (community apartments in central Castrovillari, pre-booked until December 18, 2025). Payment in advance (one or two instalments) secures your spot.
Where will we live?
We''ve arranged community apartments in central Castrovillari. The flats have already been pre‑booked and reserved for the Hub until 18th December 2025. We encourage you to confirm your stay before this date because, after 18th December, all remaining apartments will be released to the general public and non‑hub customers. Of course, there''s no obligation and you can book your own accommodation elsewhere, no one is earning commissions here, but keep in mind that if you want your children to be close to their new friends, it''s easier to stay near the other families. The cost is between 600 euro and 750 euro per month including all bills, depending on the apartment and there is no WIFI in most apartments but you can easily get a portable internet key to plug into your laptop and use for work.
What can we do on weekends?
Weekends are for exploring! Families often organize shared trips to Puglia''s beaches, Matera, Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, hiking in Pollino, or visiting Sicily. Major destinations are just 2–2.5 hours away.
Will there be other worldschooling families?
Absolutely! BrightSteps is designed for worldschooling families, and the community apartments bring families together naturally.
